There's no context to this explosion, but it's most likely another step on the trail of violence that brings Peter to the main villains, indirectly perhaps.

Could having to deal with this sort of small-time criminal damage be what sends Peter in search of bigger fish to fry? It's not like this could possibly compete with swinging around fighting with Giant Man.

Or, as I say, is this explosion what leads Spidey to the gang in the first place?
