You wait months for a good comic book movie to come out and all of a sudden it looks like two are heading into cinemas around the same time. We've already seen the early reactions to DC and James Wan's bonkers, fun Aquaman beginning to appear online and now Sony's animated Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse has screened to critics. And wouldn't you know it, they all seem to have loved it.

You can't get moved for positive reviews and some of them - from eminently respected figures like Fandango's Erik Davis - are suggesting that this isn't just a great movie, but very possibly the best Spider-Man movie of all:

That might sound like a platitude, but the "one of the best XX ever" comments are all over the run-down of critical responses, so there's reason to believe that this is a seriously good movie.

It wasn't hard to already be completely bowled over by the animation from the trailers (and the teaser sequence tagged onto the end of Venom) and the cast has looked superb since news started breaking of who was involved, and it's truly great to see that the film seems to be delivering on all of that promise.

Chief among the points for praise seems to be the art style, the vocal performances and the heart and that's all incredibly good news.

Now, if they can just expand the animated superhero movie in this style to include Batman, Hulk, the X-Men and hell, pretty much everyone, we can all have a party.
