While time will tell where Spider-Man shows up, Sony clearly has huge plans for other characters from his world; Morbius and Venom: Let There Be Carnage are both set to be released next year, while movies starring characters like Kraven the Hunter, Madame Web, and Jackpot are all in various stages of development as well. Last week, though, it was finally confirmed that Spider-Woman will join them.

Despite what the name suggests, she's not just a female version of Spider-Man, and there's a lot to be excited about when it comes to what Jessica Drew brings to the table. In fact, it's no exaggeration to say that here presence in Sony's own Marvel Universe could prove to be a game-changer.

With that in mind, we're taking a look at everything you need to know about Spider-Woman before she makes her long overdue big screen debut, both in regards to her history in the comic books and what's been revealed about the hero's movie...

10. Olivia Wilde Is Going To Be In The Director's Chair

Perhaps best known for starring in House and TRON: Legacy, Olivia Wilde has made an impact behind the camera in recent years, kicking off her career as a director with Booksmart last year. The critically acclaimed teen comedy saw her win the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature, and it was widely praised for its depiction of young, female characters.

Sony Pictures clearly sees a lot of potential in Wilde as a director because Spider-Woman is going to be a considerably bigger project than Booksmart, and it's now down to the actress turned director to prove she has what it takes to be in charge of a blockbuster.

With psychological thriller Don't Worry Darling starring Florence Pugh, Chris Pine and Shia LaBeouf next up for Wilde, she's clearly intent on making an impact as a director, and is set to pen the screenplay for Spider-Woman with Booksmart writing partner Katie Silberman. Based on that alone, it seems likely this will be a deeper look at Jessica Drew than what Venom delivered with Eddie Brock.
