Star Trek: 8 Things The Kelvin Timeline Movies Got Wrong

2. The Enterprise In Battle

Star Trek Beyond specifically mentions that the USS Enterprise is the most advanced ship docked at Yorktown Station. Star Trek (2009) calls it the Federations' newest flagship. Throughout Star Trek's history, the Enterprise is the pinnacle of starship engineering and technological advancement in the Federation, an advanced vehicle for exploration and a formidable defensive weapon. The Kelvin Timeline movies, however, take every opportunity to trash her.

Star Trek (2009)'s first act ends with the Enterprise so damaged, so much of her crew killed, that inexperienced officers fresh out of Starfleet Academy like McCoy and Uhura have to step into the shoes of the ship's command crew.

In Star Trek Into Darkness, the Enterprise is put up against the war machine the USS Vengeance and doesn't fire a single shot before her hull is shattered and the ship itself is careering into Earth's atmosphere.

Worst of all, Star Trek Beyond features the ship's demise in a similar, atmospheric reentry that causes the crew of the Enterprise to spill all over the corridors and bridge.

Just like with the Klingons, a tired tactic of the Kelvin films was to kick the Enterprise's ass to raise the stakes. The worst part of it is it's such a beautiful design (credit to Ryan Church and production designer Scott Chambliss), but none of these movies really lets the Enterprise shine. She's constantly put through the wringer and comes out so battered, the implication is she's not very well put together.

The Kelvin Enterprise didn't last a fraction of the over 40 year history of her Prime Universe counterpart before an Enterprise-A had to be commissioned.
