Star Wars: 10 Big Kylo Ren And Rey Theories For Episode 9

With Luke Skywalker and Han Solo gone, and Princess Leia unlikely to be CGI’d into Episode 9, Kylo Ren and Rey are now the undisputed faces of the newest trilogy of the Star Wars saga.
Whatever you thought of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, there can be no denying the two characters are now among the most fascinating individuals of the entire series. Other characters, such as Finn, Poe and General Hux, have had their moments so far but it is the fates of the two Force-users that is adding so much intrigue ahead of Episode 9’s release in December next year.
Last time we saw Kylo Ren and Rey, it appeared their Force connection that was created by Supreme Leader Snoke had been broken and they were resigned to the fact that, despite their being a spark between them, they will be enemies and forced to do battle. However, The Last Jedi still suggested that both individuals could yet team up or, even crazier, change sides further down the line.
There is so much that could happen that it is hard to see what exactly J.J. Abrams will decide to do with the two characters who were given so much depth to them by Rian Johnson in The Last Jedi. However, anything is possible in the galaxy.
10. Kylo Was Lying About Rey's Parents
Best to get this one out of the way early. Ever since Rey’s introduction to the franchise in 2015’s The Force Awakens, fans have clamoured to know more about the Jakku scavenger. Was she a Skywalker? A Kenobi? An Ewok without all the fuzz? Going into The Last Jedi, many were expecting Rian Johnson’s big reveal to leave audiences stunned and satisfied in equal measure.
However, The Last Jedi’s most shocking reveal was that Rey was not any of the above. In fact, she was merely the product of two junk traders on Jakku who, desperate for drinking money, sold her to Simon Pegg’s Unkar Plutt. This bombshell is dropped by Kylo Ren shortly after they team up to take down Snoke’s Elite Praetorian Guards.
Some, though, think Kylo could merely be playing on her emotions and her need for closure in a bid to lure her into joining him. And Johnson has even admitted Rey’s parentage could be handled differently in the next film, telling EW: "I can’t speak to what they’re going to do. And there’s always, in these movies, a question of 'a certain point of view.”
Why Is It Big? Changing Rey’s parentage would be huge going forward. However, it would also risk upsetting those who did enjoy The Last Jedi’s big reveal. It would also smack of Disney panicking to get fans disillusioned by Johnson’s movie back on side.
