Yes, it's a running joke about J.J. Abrams, but his stylistic choice to include lens flare in his movies is a visual signature that has since been copied by many other filmmakers. While it doesn't add much to his films, it makes it clear what you're watching, and so it's reasonable to expect that he might inflict the same style upon Lucas' movie series. Granted, depending on how "gritty" or not Episode 7 ends up being, Abrams could take the restrained approach and, realising his lens flare is inappropriate, put it on hold. Besides, it would help differentiate the Wars movies from Trek stylistically, rather than have them become homogenised from a visual perspective. Still, given its prevalence in his body of work to date, the smart money is probably on it showing up somewhere.
