It's clear from the storylines in the prequel trilogy that George Lucas has no idea why Star Wars fans like Star Wars. Whereas we all wanted lightsaber fights and people getting trapped in trash compactors, Lucas wanted to give you a little dose of intergalactic policies. And that's okay, because now he definitely knows what Star Wars fans don't like - best of all, the man has limited involvement in the new saga, so it's not much of a concern. But one of the biggest mistakes ol' George made, though, was cramming Star Wars with needlessly complicated plots about the galaxy working as a whole, mainly on a political level. The problem with that is that we never signed up for Houses of Parliament-like sequences in which hundreds of aliens dispute things that feel disconnected from the better, more interesting stories. I mean, you just can't make a Trade Federation taxation blockade that interesting, can you? And to be perfectly honest, "taxation" is a word we should have never heard used in the Star Wars universe. Simply put: make Episode VII a balls to the walls adventure, and keep the yawn-inducing political theatrics down to a minimum.
