8. Duncan Jones
Why He Should Direct: Duncan Jones is one of the most intriguing young filmmakers working predominantly in the sci-fi genre right now.
His debut Moon and follow-up Source Code were widely acclaimed, and while last year's Warcraft was a tremendous disappointment, it's hard to solely blame Jones for that.
At his best, Jones is an imaginative voice who could bring a distinct style and tone to the Star Wars universe, and he's more than proven his chops in the genre.
How Likely Is It?: Jones will shortly be completing post-production on his Netflix film Mute, so the timing works out pretty well.
However, Warcraft's poor critical reception and underwhelming box office will probably work against him here, especially as it's his single bonafide blockbuster to date, and hardly a ringing endorsement at that.
He's best considered an outside candidate, basically. 3/10
