Why She Should Direct: Patty Jenkins instantly became one of the hottest directors working today after knocking Wonder Woman out of the park, which released to strong critical and commercial success.
Considering that Episode IX will be the climax of Rey's journey, who better to direct the film than a female filmmaker who just directed a huge hit movie about a powerful woman realising her destiny?
How Likely Is It?: The main obstacle here is Wonder Woman 2, which is aiming for a December 2019 release and will presumably start shooting around the same time that Episode IX goes into production.
And there's always the possibility that Kennedy simply doesn't think that Jenkins' slow-mo-happy style would fit Star Wars all that well. It's the scheduling that'll kill this one above all else, though. 2/10
