This is very much a classic case of surprising everyone and earning your redemption with the watching audience.

Vice Admiral Holdo comes across as a bit of a villain within the Resistance ranks at first. Poe Dameron clearly has no time for her, nor does she really care for what she sees as his reckless ways.

However, Holdo comes up trumps when it matters. With Leia leading an evacuation of transporters away from Hux and his army, she commits the ultimate sacrifice as she blasts into hyperspace towards Hux's ships and, in turn, decimating a large chunk of his fleet.
