Star Wars Rogue One: 10 Major Concerns From Trailer 3
10. K-2SO Still Does Not Look Right
Star Wars has always loved robots and androids just as much as aliens: already we've seen (and fallen for) the lovable R2-D2, the even more lovable BB-8 and the lovably irritating C3-PO. But, ever since the very first images were released from Rogue One there has been concern over the new addition to the mech roster; K-2SO.
There's no other way to put it, he just does not look very Star Wars-y.
There's just something about the whole design, the CGI, even the voice that just isn't clicking with what we have come to know about Star Wars. This isn't even the first instance of a jarring robot in the new films: remember the large droid hanging around outside of Maz Kanata's castle-bar? That had the exact same effect.
They both just look a bit... off.
This particular robot is being played by geek-alumni Alan Tudyk, who interestingly has played a robot before in sub-par Will Smith vehicle I, Robot. That experience might be deemed valuable by some, but it's off-putting, particularly when he appears to be using the same plummy voice.
Maybe it's just because K-2SO isn't adorable like R2-D2 and BB-8? Or maybe he just looks a lot more inhuman than we're used to? He has some convincing to do.
