Star Wars Rumour: Billy Dee Williams' Lando To Appear In Episode 9
Is IX getting a whole lot smoother?
2018 has already been a big year for Lando Calrissian. With Donald Glover in the role, the character stole the show in the build-up to Solo: A Star Wars Story, and a fair few times during the movie too, and talk has swirled since about a spin-off movie centred around the cape-wearing, smooth-talking smuggler.
Now a new rumour suggests that it's not just the anthology movies that'll be featuring Lando, with Fantha Tracks reporting that Billy Dee Williams is set to reprise the role for Star Wars Episode IX.
We've been here before, of course, with the character once rumoured to be a part of The Last Jedi, so it's worth taking with a pinch of Crait's surface, but Fantha Tracks cite a couple of sources who've told them Lando is indeed returning for J.J. Abrams' trilogy closer. And while that's not confirmation, it would make sense for Lando to be back in the fold.
There aren't many legacy characters left, and with Episode IX having to be restructured after the sad passing of Carrie Fisher, it might be that they're bringing back Lando to help in that kind of role, and likely pilot the Millennium Falcon in the process. With the Resistance needing some friends after Episode VIII, it wouldn't be too much of a surprise if they turned to the Baron Administrator of Cloud City.
Filming gets underway on Episode IX next month, so hopefully we'll have official confirmation sooner rather than later.
