Though initial theories suggested that Oscar-winning 12 Years A Slave star Lupita Nyong'o might appear in The Force Awakens as a prominent Sith character, if the latest reports are to be believed, she's playing a blue-coloured alien codenamed Rose (though that most certainly won't be her final name in the movie). Her role in the movie sounds like a relatively small yet crucial one, whereby she relays the backstory of Luke Skywalker's (Mark Hamill) exile to new heroes Finn (John Boyega) and Rey (Daisy Ridley). Latino Review's report states that she essentially narrates most of the trailer, delivering exposition about Luke before TIE fighters appear to attack her location, possibly killing her. Also, considering the rumours that this character will be a CGI creation, hopefully it won't betray Abrams' determination to stick to practical effects where possible.
