Who is Kylo Ren? After "Where's Luke?" and "How much would it cost to make a real, life-sized version of BB-8?" that's the biggest question on any Star Wars fans lips as we head into the final couple of weeks before The Force Awakens' release. And why wouldn't it be? He's an inherently mysterious character - they put him in a mask, for Chosen One's sake - whose pivotal role in the biggest movie of the year/decade/milennium/ever movie is still incredibly uncertain. Naturally there's all manner of theories, from the nature of the Knights of Ren (which are either his troops, his disciples or a Dark Jedi group the young man's got wrapped up in) to his relation to the original cast, with some people even willingly ignoring the casting of Adam Driver and suggesting it's Mark Hamill ranting all about legacies at Vader's mask. But who Kylo Ren is is only part of the bigger pictures. Today I'm going to look beyond simple plot points to find the greater meaning. Namely, what is Kylo Ren? Why is this young-ish guy the villain of The Force Awakens? And what point is J.J. Abrams making with it? I think I've cracked it, and will get to the big conclusion in due time, but first the evidence...
