Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 8 Compelling Theories About General Hux

By Mike Morgan /

5. He's Really A Double-Agent For The Supreme Leader

Depending on how involved Jeffrey Jacob Abrams wants to get, here's a wrinkle to the "Hux is secretly working for the Resistance" theory that he could use - what if the General's a double agent secretly in the employ of Andy Serkis' Supreme Leader Snoke? Star Wars "big bads" have a history of setting up intricate long-term plans to lure the heroes into deadly traps (think Death Star II really being fully operational and ready to blow the entire Rebel fleet out of existence). Placing Hux in the Resistance just so he could feed the good guys misinformation at a critical moment would be exactly the sort of thing a Sith lord possessed of precognitive powers would do. Of course, this theory assumes that Snoke is a Sith Lord or at least has Force powers, but that seems a pretty safe bet. Hux being a double agent also allows the film to have two dramatic reveals for the character. Initially, there would be a moment like, "Actually, I'm on your side, Rey and Finn!" followed by the even more shocking, "Sorry! I lied to lure all your friends into this deadly trap!" In the final analysis, it makes sense for the General to be a true acolyte of Snoke. After all, what's the point of having a bad guy who can sense the future if he's not going to use that information to cleverly defeat his enemies? And if the General truly is the son of Skywalker, this theory would pave the way for the bloodline to turn back to the Dark Side, further ramping up the stakes and the tension.
