Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 10 Predictions For The Biggest Ever Twist
3. Kylo Ren Is Undercover
The Theory
He might have killed Han Solo, apparently betrayed Luke Skywalker and tried to murder Rey, but what if Ben Solo's alliance with Snoke is nothing more than a deep cover assignment designed to take down the remnants of the Empire and the Dark Side from within?
What if Luke never lost Ren to the Dark Side, and his "teachings" were rather a conditioning programme designed to turn Ben into an extremist time bomb waiting for his moment to strike? We already know Luke has an unconventional interpretation of traditional Jedi wisdom (since he essentially ignored Yoda), so it probably wouldn't be out of the question for him to turn to an extreme plan to restore balance.
What if Ren's idolisation of his grandfather is a hint at his true motivations and he is actually driven by Anakin's ultimate act of insurrection against the Sith, rather than his apparent evil? Sure, you'd have to accept he killed his father simply not to blow his cover, but there's no saying Han Solo wasn't in on the whole thing (he was a late convert to the importance of the Force, after all). If there's one character in this entire series you could count on to sacrifice themselves as a hero, it would be Solo.
Would It Be Shocking Enough?
Given the fact that Han Solo's murder would be revealed to be part of Ren's commitment to his deep cover, it would be pretty bloody shocking.
We've already seen major suggestions that Ren will be conflicted and that he's not entirely irredeemable (with some predictions suggesting he will be redeemed by the end of the trilogy), and there are very few ways he could get out of straight murdering his father unless it was a long-con that Solo was part of.
Then again, that would require basically stealing the plot of Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince, so maybe it's a leap too far?
