2. Closing The Door
Johnson felt it was really important to put a cap on the connection between Rey and Kylo heading into Episode 9, where they're enemies but something has changed between them. Hence why he revisits the Force connection one last time, and has Rey literally closing the door between them.

Then with Poe and Rey, he had to go back and make sure they'd never met in The Force Awakens, and really liked the idea of the two of them finally having this moment together after everything they've been through in the movie.
