Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 8 Major Plot Theories You Need To Know
8. Luke's Robes Have A Hidden Meaning
Visually, The Last Jedi was beautifully designed, with every single frame crafted to perfection and makeup, sets and special effects proving some of the best we've seen in a recent blockbuster.
Even elements as small as the film's costumes may contain details that are easy to overlook while watching, and in particular, the robes that Luke wears at various points in the story may give us an insight into his current frame of mind.
When Rey first bumps into Luke at the end of The Force Awakens/the start of The Last Jedi, he's wearing slightly off-colour (Ahch-To doesn't have a good launderette) white robes, as seen in the image above.
But then, for the majority of the movie, he dons his dark robes...
It's not until his final scene that we see him wearing the white robes again, and these are the clothes he's wearing when he fades away and becomes one with the Force.
It's likely that he was originally planning to kill himself while wearing the white robes, but when Rey arrived, he put this plan on hold and changed into his dark robes.
It's only at the end of the film - when he's ready to die once again - that he changes back into his white robes, sacrificing himself so his sister and her friends can escape the First Order.
