Laura Dern in a Star Wars movie is an idea so brilliant it's odd that it took until now for it to happen, and she nails her performance as Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo. A high-ranking member of the Resistance, she takes command and immediately sets about clashing with Poe.

It's interesting to see how much both she and Poe learned from Leia, albeit taking different approaches, and her character does a great job of serving some of the core themes of the franchise. She's strong, charismatic, and is as interesting as her aesthetic.
