Much like in The Force Awakens, R2-D2 doesn't get a great deal to do in this film. He's hardly in it, really, further confirmation that BB-8 is the new droid on the block.

However, the one main scene he's in is both excellent and important, calling back to the best in a heartfelt manner and advancing characters at the same time.
