Kasdan is another all important link to the original trilogy, and as one of the creative talents behind the most respected of all the Star Wars films he brings an invaluable source of continuity. It is also exciting that he gets a chance to build upon the love story he originally helped to develop between Leia and Han. Its a fair guess their relationship probably wont be the central plot of the story but it will be interesting to see how the twilight years of their romance is depicted. With Kasdan, the script couldnt be in better hands, especially in terms of the dynamic between original cast members, which leads nicely on to the next point...
11. Han and Leia
Nobody wants to see On Golden Pond In Space but seeing how the years have affected Han and Leias love story - a relationship that was only blossoming when we last saw it - is one of Episode VIIs most intriguing prospects. The expectation is that we will see a Han and Leia who have long been married and have children, who will no doubt become the focal points of the new films. This would run pretty close to the expanded universe version of events though, so there is always the possibility that another approach could be taken to differentiate. This could relate back to the notion of the Jedi's priest-like vow of denying themselves love. It remains to be seen how this is addressed in Episode VII, whether Luke will revolutionise the order by ripping up some the more draconian old laws, or whether he will choose to uphold all their ancient traditions. Presuming Leia has been trained in the Jedi arts by Luke, she could have renounced Jedi-dom to be with Han, or even dumped him so she could help Luke rebuild the Jedi. Either way it sets up an interesting conflict surrounding their relationship .
