Star Wars: What Is Leia's Role In Episode 9?
1. What Does All This Tell Us About Abrams' Episode IX?
While both of the scripts mentioned are for different movies, and one is from a director who was ultimately fired from Episode 9, there are some similarities when it comes to how Leia is used.
In both, she is very much placed as the head of the Resistance and the one person most prepared to lead the charge against the First Order. That, too, is what her role in The Last Jedi was, although there she discouraged the kind of attack the Episode VII script has her overseeing.
Without knowing exactly how much footage they have, it's hard to say how much Leia will be in IX, but Abrams' previous vision and Trevorrow's own plans for the character do suggest she'll still be leading the Resistance here, even if there's a time jump, and having one final fight against the First Order. However, with this ending the Skywalker saga and likely to bring a resolution to Kylo Ren's arc too, you'd have to imagine they'll try and find a way of connecting her with her son again as well.
It's all conjecture at this point, but what we have to go on points to Leia still fighting the good fight and doing all she can to take down the First Order, this time with support from her old friend Lando Calrissian and, maybe, one final reunion with her brother Luke.
