Suicide Squad 2 Could Be Ben Affleck's Last Batman Appearance
Farewell, Dark Knight?
Not a week passes these days without some new development in the Batfleck saga. Will he leave? Will he persist? Will Matt Reeves simply cast his own Batman and ignore he exists? Each story seems to bring a different take.
The latest development in the tale comes courtesy of Batman-On-Film who suggest that Ben Affleck's last performance as Batman probably won't come in Reeves' The Batman, but will either happen in either Suicide Squad 2 or Flashpoint. And given the uncertainty over Flashpoint's development, they say that the smart money would be on Gavin O'Connor's sequel.
The rumour report also talks more about Reeves making The Batman as a stand-alone movie away from canon - ie separate from the DCEU - which is smart given the perceived toxicity of that brand. And that means it's even more likely that he will cast his own Bruce Wayne.
But who could he cast?
Suggestions so far have mentioned Joaquin Phoenix and Jake Gyllenhaal and Reeves apparently already has his top pick marked out, so it shouldn't be too long before we find out something concrete on that front. And as for Affleck getting a swansong? It's not a bad thing - he's done nothing wrong in the role, despite the cynicism to his casting, and has been let down by bad direction and a bad script. If he's to get one interesting appearance to play with before he goes, then let's try and make it a good one, eh?
