Suicide Squad: First Look At Will Smith's Deadshot (Doesn't Look Great)
It's not the nineties anymore, Will.
After that whole Joker fiasco you'd think the producers behind Suicide Squad would want to ensure their next big character reveal went off without a hitch. A teasing look at Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, an unexpected still of Viola Davis as team-creator Amanda Waller or a shot of Jai Courtney's Captain Boomerang that completely hid the actor's total lack of charisma; something big and something oh so positive. Well, if that was the plan, it's not worked; they didn't account for on-set snoops snapping some pictures of Will Smith in costume as Floyd Lawton aka Deadshot. And here we go again... There's little to go on, given these are leaked images taken from location shooting, but the design is just so out there, so perplexing that it just needs to commented on now, ahead of what official reveal David Ayer has in mind (probably a publicity shot on Twitter). After the initial reaction that this is actually a still from the production of Wild Wild West (it's a "once seen, can't unsee" observation), the big problem here is the eye. In the comics, Deadshot's unmatched accuracy comes from what can best be described as a giant robot laser eye. Smith doesn't have one and there's no sign of any VFX markers for one to be added in post-production. That means Lawton will suffer his gouging injury and become Deadshot proper in the movie itself. All well and good, but why the hell would he be hired for the villain team in the first place? An average sharpshooter with outlandish dress-sense doesn't quite match a literal Enchantress in terms of help to the group.
