Prano Bailey-Bond's eye-opening directorial debut Censor is a darkly satirical horror film that serves as both a tribute to schlock-horror and bite-back against cinematic censorship.

Niamh Algar stars as Enid, a film censor whose life unravels when she screens a graphic film which appears to mimic a traumatic incident from her youth.

Though not without its uneven moments, Censor is a bold, startling genre vision, Bailey-Bond lovingly recalling the scuzzy style of the "video nasties" era while playing with cinematic form in some creative and totally unexpected ways.

But the true find here is Algar, whose performance as a woman becoming increasingly frayed by the truth of her past is quite the sight to behold.
