It's always incredibly difficult for culturally specific movies of any genre to break out around the world, especially without any internationally recognisable names among its cast.

And so, it was expected that Edgar Wright's British rom-zom-com Shaun of the Dead would perform modestly at the UK box office while doing little business elsewhere.

But on a low $6 million budget, Wright's film performed strongly in not only the UK but also the US, which combined with periodic re-releases per its immense popularity, has left it with a total global gross of $32.6 million.

It wouldn't have surprised anyone if Shaun of the Dead only became a cult classic after its theatrical release came and went, but that wasn't the case at all - its upfront popularity immediately cemented it as one of the greatest zombie films and horror-comedies of all time, while remaining Wright's most beloved film to this very day.
