20 Recent Movies WAY Better Than They Had Any Right To Be

10. Silent Night, Deadly Night

Last year's reimagining of Silent Night, Deadly Night is yet further proof that Hollywood needs to remake more bad movies than good ones, taking a sellable concept and reworking it with a more inspired creative vision.

The 1984 original is a cult classic but few would characterise it as genuinely good, and yet many fans of the O.G. had little interest in another new take - following 2012's previous remake - that would likely sanitise the '84 film's scuzzier, rougher edges.

And while Silent Night, Deadly Night 2025 does admittedly soften the tone of the story, by having our central Santa suit-wearing serial killer target mostly awful people like neo-Nazis, it benefits enormously from the central chemistry between our killer, Rohan Campbell, and Ruby Modine's love interest.

Furthermore, the ballsy supernatural twist actually works more often than not, ensuring that this isn't merely a staid, tidied-up rehash of what came before, but an earnest attempt to deliver a fresh take.
