20 Recent Movies WAY Better Than They Had Any Right To Be

4. Over Your Dead Body

It's tough not to roll your eyes when Hollywood decides to remake a successful international horror film, and so when 2021's Norwegian streaming hit The Trip was said to be getting a stateside re-do, expectations weren't high at all.

Even with Samara Weaving and Jason Segel starring and The Lonely Island's Jorma Taccone directing, it was tough to expect much beyond another wildly unnecessary rehash for those folk who simply can't be bothered to read subtitles.

And while Over Your Dead Body is hardly a "necessary" remake, it does largely justify its existence by steering away from the original's distinctly Scandic dark humour and delivering something quite different tonally.

Taccone's comedic chops serve him well here and he makes good on the grisly action too, though it's the central performance from Weaving - one of our most reliable scream queens right now - which truly makes the film sing.

Is it better than The Trip? No, but it does more than enough to stand on its own two feet as a fitting companion piece.
