17. The Devil Wears Prada 2

As history has proven time and time again, getting a belated comedy sequel right is really hard.

To return to beloved characters decades later and avoid ruining them while retaining the charm that made the original film a hit is an ultra-tricky balancing act, and so few would've been shocked if The Devil Wears Prada 2 fell a little short of the mark.

Even though basically every major cast and crew member returned from the original, success was hardly guaranteed, especially with the decision to write an entirely new story rather than adapt the (admittedly divisive) sequel novel Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns.

But The Devil Wears Prada 2 is that rarest of late comedy sequels that really works. 

For one, the cast all slink effortlessly back into their roles, the characterisation feels totally consistent with what came before, and the script even has something genuine to say about the state of modern journalism.

All in all this basically feels like a best case scenario for what could've so easily been another too-late comedy follow-up.
