Both Rev-9 and Carl end up melted into oblivion, while Sarah and Dani look down from above, in a set-up and pay-off that's incredibly similar to T2's devastating final lowering of the T-800 into the molten steel.

The shots of Sarah looking down at the T-800's remains are extremely similar in both movies, and there's no way this was accidental given the numerous visual homages littered throughout the film.
