That Terminator Genisys Sequel Has (Finally) Been Cancelled

The movie was casually removed from Paramount's upcoming slate.

Following the Kansas City Shuffle that took place with all the 2017 blockbuster release dates after Episode VIII relocated to December, one notable change amid the hullaballoo is that the planned sequel to Terminator Genisys - originally set for 19th May 2017 - has been disappeared from the schedule entirely. In its place now sits Dwayne Johnson's big screen Baywatch adaptation. Even after the initially poor worldwide reception to Terminator Genisys - around $327 mil in box office from a $155 mil budget, not including marketing - Paramount were supposedly waiting to see how much money Genisys would make through the lucrative China release before pushing ahead with a sequel. The result was around $113 million in receipts, but apparently it wasn't enough to bolster Paramount's confidence in keeping Terminator Geni2ys* on the schedule. Of course, that's not to say that we'll never ever see another Terminator film again - a franchise with so much potential and brand recognition will hardly be left by the wayside. It'll just be hard to bounce back from the critical drubbing and commercial failings of Genisys. In other news, the planned reboot of Jumanji (to be directed by Jake Kasdan) has been moved back from December of this year to July of next. No surprises there, as there was no way in seven hells that the film - still in its infancy - would be ready in that short amount of time (without being a complete mess, at least). Jumanji takes the Sony/Disney Spider-Man solo film's old slot of 27th July 2017, whilst Spider-Man has moved forward a few weeks to 7th July. Yay! *not official title
