The earnestness of the dialogue in this scene almost sends it into parody but the quality of Rutger Hauer's delivery and Harrison Ford's reactions make it moving instead. On the page, the line "Those moments will be lost in time. Like tears in the rain" reads like bad teen poetry. But on screen? It sings. Also, there may be no more powerful way of ending a monologue and, in this case, a character's life than with the words "Time to die". The humanity of Roy in that moment is breathtaking and answers any questions the audience might have had about the replicants' right to life. Missed one out?
