First, let€™s get little Mike, or Magic Mike if you like, out the way. Yes, the Irish-German man of the hour€™s appendage gave a moving and powerful performance in Shame, but nowhere near as good as its owner€™s. Shame may have come a little early, but it was released in the UK in 2012 so it counts as being part of a winning year where Fassbender was the best thing in two rather lacklustre movies. His performance as T.E. Lawrence-aping android David in Prometheus was critic-proof, and perhaps the best of all the androids we€™ve seen in the Alien franchise. He showed for the second time why he should be the next James Bond in the dull-as-dishwater actioner Haywire, where his brief turn was perhaps the only good thing in it. And this was a quiet year in comparison to next - Frank, The Counsellor, Twelve Years A Slave...long may The Fass, and Fassie the wonder-dick, reign!
