The 2015 Alternative Movie Awards

Looking back at the best and worst that 2015 had to offer.

By Scott Campbell /

There's really no other way of putting it; 2015 was a hell of a year for film. From studio blockbusters all the way down to micro-budget independent movies, last year delivered so many great movies in every genre that fans from every walk of life had so much to choose from. Now as we find ourselves on the brink of awards season, talk of $200 million mega-budget behemoths will slowly disappear from the conversation as talk turns to the annual onslaught of prestige pictures that look to carry their momentum right through to the Academy Awards. Well, at least until Star Wars: The Force Awakens stops hoovering up every box office dollar in sight. It is also that time when 'end of year' lists hit the internet with ferocious regularity, as everyone gives their two cents on the best and worst of 2015. Obviously, this is an 'end of year' list, but not just any 'end of year' list... these are the 3rdannual Alternative Movie Awards! Much like previous years, these awards are based on categories that you don't usually find at the barrage of back-slapping awards ceremonies that dish out shiny statues. Instead, let's take a more light-hearted yet frequently cynical look back at 2015 and break down the best and worst that the year had to offer from soaring success to crushing failure. Beware however, as there will be a number of SPOILERS across the following pages...
