The Accountant Trailer: Dread, Affleck And A Beautiful Mind

Meet the autistic accountant assassin anti-hero...

When he's not getting furious as the response to Batman v Superman or swooping in to save the day for Justice League as an executive producer, Ben Affleck still has a day job that doesn't involve any sorts of cape-wearing. But it doesn't seem like he's done with vigilanteism just yet, as the trailer for the exquisitely odd The Accountant has just landed.

In Gavin O'Connor's tense-looking drama, Affleck plays Christian Wolff (great name), a math savant who hides behind the cover of a small-town CPA office to freelance for the world's worst mobs. He has the CED on his case, led by Ray King (JK Simmons), and he takes on a legitimate case to help an accounting clerk (Anna Kendrick) unravel a discrepancy worth millions of dollars. Inevitably it all escalates and the pair end up running for their lives.

That sounds like a pitch that started off normally, and then everyone took a lot of drugs and got very over-excited towards the end. After all, an autistic accountant fighting crime sounds more like a Martin Lawrence flick than an Affleck one in 2016. Luckily, the tone is right and the trailer looks ace:

Definitely a good reminder that you should never, ever underestimate your accountant. Because heroes - and bad-asses - come in all sorts of shapes and sizes.

Also, thank God for Affleck being given something to get his teeth into performance wise. He might have been great as Batman, but it wasn't exactly a challenging role beyond all the eggs and chicken he must have had to eat.

The Accountant is out on 14th October.
