5. Emily Blunt Was All Set To Play Black Widow

Emily Blunt, who recently starred in Rian Johnson's Looper alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt, was apparently so close to signing on as the Russian-born Black Widow for Iron Man 2 that Marvel stopped looking for other actresses. And then something happened: Fox, who Blunt has a contract with, obligated her into starring in Gulliver's Travels, which is one of the lesser Jack Black films that you never went to see/will never see again. Scarlett Johansson later bagged this role, of course, but for my money Blunt was a far better choice. Don't get me wrong: I like Johansson a lot, and she's good as Black Widow, but Blunt just seems right for the character in ways that Johansson seems.. well, awkward. But don't count Emily out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe just yet: she's expressed interest in returning for another role, should the right opportunity present itself.
