The Batman: 10 Huge New Reveals From Director Matt Reeves At DC FanDome

5. It's A "Year Two" Story

Batman's origin story is well-known to pretty much everyone at this point, and it's not something that needs to be revisited. Only Christopher Nolan has really taken a deep dive into Bruce Wayne's training and first year as the Dark Knight, so Reeves has chosen to bypass that and head straight to "Year Two."

During the DC FanDome panel for The Batman, Reeves confirmed that his movie takes place during the second year of Bruce being Batman, and explained that he's only just beginning to find his footing. That means exploring why he chose to become Batman rather than how.

Describing the vigilante as "broken," Reeves said that this Bruce is haunted by "that idea of being driven by your past, and by the things that you can't quite resolve in yourself." The Batman "[is] about the early days of how he is Batman" and fans will "see him becoming what we all know about him, and see it in new ways. I felt like that was a way to do something that hasn't been done."

Well, this is definitely a fresh approach, but what does the public make of him? We'll get to that later!
