The Batman: 10 Ways DC Can Make A New PERFECT Shared Universe
2. No Joker Until The Third Movie
People are sick of the Joker. That's just the long and short of the matter.
And at least this first upcoming Batman movie understands this, as Joker is nowhere to be seen, instead going for six other fan favorite villains like Riddler and Poison Ivy. But of course, you can't outrun The Joker forever, especially when his solo movie is one of the most financially successful comic book movies ever made. Sooner or later the Clown Prince will come calling, but the new movies should definitely wait before putting him into this new series.
The Dark Knight Trilogy knew not to lead with the Joker in your first movie, as that's leading with your most famous villain too soon, so now you've gone too far too early. But with these new movies, Reeves would do well to wait until the third entry before introducing his version of the Harlequin of Hate. Maybe have someone like Hush for the second movie, then leave the trilogy on your most famous villain so you can potentially go out on a high note.
The only way that people are going to be blown away by the Joker anymore is if you build him up expertly and use the character sparingly. Otherwise, the character's magic may just disappear.
