The Batman Finds Its Gotham City, And It's Not One You'd Expect
Gotham: Twinned with... GLASGOW?!
With Matt Reeves’ The Batman having now begun shooting, it’s been revealed that Glasgow, Scotland will double as Gotham City for the movie.
Courtesy of The Daily Record, the dirty streets and corners of Gotham will be represented by the streets of Glasgow, with filming in the city due to start next month.
Shooting on The Batman actually started at the turn of the year in London. To date, there have been a few sparse glimpses from the movie’s set – most notably a blurry glimpse of Colin Farrell, and a mystery motorcyclist who may or may not have been Robert Pattinson.
In addition to Pattinson as the film’s titular Caped Crusader and Farrell as the Penguin, The Batman will also feature Zazie Beetz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, and to-be-revealed roles for Jayme Lawson and Peter Sarsgaard.
Given the characters already confirmed to appear in The Batman, many are speculating that the picture could well be a loose adaptation of Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale’s iconic The Long Halloween. That 13-issue tale across 1996 and into 1997 featured a who’s who of Batman characters as a relatively wet around the ears Dark Knight is posed with solving the conundrum of who the mysterious, murderous Holiday is.
All being well, The Batman is planned to be the launching point for a new trilogy of Bat-flicks from director Matt Reeves. That, of course, will all depend on how the movie does at the worldwide box office once it hits the silver screen in June 2021.
