The trailer show a gritty, brooding take on the character reminiscent of David Fincher films, set to Nirvana's "Something in the Way". It features glimpses of several characters including Robert Pattinson's Batman, Zoe Kravitz's Catwoman, Paul Dano's Riddler, Jeffrey Wright's Commissioner Gordon, and a near-unrecognizable Colin Farrell as the Penguin. The trailer also features a gang of white facepaint-wearing criminals whose leader Batman brutalizes.

All footage shown in the teaser was filmed before production was suspended in March due to the ongoing global pandemic. Production is set to resume in September, with a tentative wide release date of October 1, 2021. Because of the ever-shifting nature of the global health situation, production resumption and the release date could be shifted without prior warning, though at this stage this does not appear to be the case.
