16. Earth Disappears

After the crew manages to get the Shepard to fire successfully for the first time, they quickly realise that Earth has "disappeared".

It's one hell of a startling revelation, as the crew tries to figure out whether they've been flung across the galaxy, or they've perhaps inadvertently destroyed Earth by firing the Shepard.

Either way, the idea of being truly alone in the universe is utterly terrifying and filled with enough potential by itself that you could make an entire movie out of it.

Eventually, though, the crew discovers that they've in fact traveled into an alternate dimension rather than condemned themselves to death or, worse still, blinked 8 billion people out of existence. Still, what a chilling concept.
