Perhaps the most surprising element of Tom Hardys performance as the ferocious Bane was the voice the actor selected for the role not a hulking, muscle man sound, but an almost dainty voice, like a slightly florid, camp English villain in Hardys words -- the voice of an older, wiser man coming through the muzzle of a hulking, blunt physical instrument. Hardy said his Bane accent was based primarily on Bartley Gorman, former bare-knuckle boxing champion of the world, a boxer...an irish traveler, a gypsy.
17. The Chant
Much as he did with The Dark Knights signature musical sound for the Joker those razors on piano wire composer Hans Zimmer cooked up the notion fairly early to use a chant as part of Banes underscore, the voices of thousands of people, a primal noise. Getting that many voices, obviously, was a challenge, and Zimmer found an unlikely solution actually turning to fans of the film, asking them to record themselves chanting on the internet. "I think there is something wonderful, Zimmer said, about finding a way of having the people who really care for this movie be participants in this movie. Talk about fan service!
