The Dark Knight Rises: 9 Things Nolan Should Have Done

6. A Broken Bat

You probably remember the first confrontation between Bane and Batman, where Bane was victorious after €˜breaking€™ Bats across his knee. This is just one of the countless moments from Batman lore that were glanced across in TDKR without being fully explored. Instead of actually breaking Batman€™s back - which is what happens at that point in Broken Bat, one of the stories Nolan borrowed heavily from - Bane decides to make the trip to wherever the prison is located (not disclosed in the film, because it€™s in the Caribbean in the comics, and everyone would then realise that this was a ridiculous trip to have made) €“ before making the trip all the way back to continue his siege of Gotham. Would it have not made more sense to simply have had Bane breaking Bruce Wayne€™s back before leaving him to die? He€™d still have needed that time to recover, both his body and his mind, and you€™d completely avoid plot holes like €œhow the hell did Bruce Wayne get back to Gotham?€ You€™d also have avoided the entire Bruce Wayne escaping Pena Dura subplot, which again, took time to explain and develop, and further split the focus of an already pretty unfocussed movie.
