You probably remember the first confrontation between Bane and Batman, where Bane was victorious after breaking Bats across his knee. This is just one of the countless moments from Batman lore that were glanced across in TDKR without being fully explored. Instead of actually breaking Batmans back - which is what happens at that point in Broken Bat, one of the stories Nolan borrowed heavily from - Bane decides to make the trip to wherever the prison is located (not disclosed in the film, because its in the Caribbean in the comics, and everyone would then realise that this was a ridiculous trip to have made) before making the trip all the way back to continue his siege of Gotham. Would it have not made more sense to simply have had Bane breaking Bruce Waynes back before leaving him to die? Hed still have needed that time to recover, both his body and his mind, and youd completely avoid plot holes like how the hell did Bruce Wayne get back to Gotham? Youd also have avoided the entire Bruce Wayne escaping Pena Dura subplot, which again, took time to explain and develop, and further split the focus of an already pretty unfocussed movie.
