The Dark Knight Rises Is 'A War Movie'

Concept artist Tully Summers has compared Chris Nolan's final Batman flick to 'a war movie' which features a 'military aesthetic'.

Concept artist Tully Summers has compared The Dark Knight rises to 'a war movie' which features a 'military aesthetic', in a new interview with Cinewebradio.com. This is definitely something that has been suggested from the set photos and videos we have been granted since last summer, a lot of which featured Bane of course in his military garb and lots and lots of battle like images featuring hundreds of extras. Now the original interview with Tully was in French so you will have to pardon the translation and the paraphasing, but you get the idea of what he is saying. When asked about the differences between The Dark Knight Rises and the other films he usually works on, he said;
"The difference for me was the visual style of Christopher Nolan . One of the things that makes his Batman films are so good is . He often prefers something crude -- a more gritty style of design -- rather than something very smooth and nice. It's military aesthetic. THE DARK KNIGHT RISES is a war movie."
And when asked whether he had any concerns about the spy images that had leaked online;
"Films like Batman are meticulously planned. Each is designed, framed, lit and choreographed by the camera. out of context. His first two movies Batman . I do not think fans will be disappointed ."
Meanwhile Emma Thomas, one of the film's producers and wife to director Christopher Nolan has also had a few interesting things to say about the movie and told Total Film recently;
"Tom made a massive physical transformation for the role ...it really is an intense performance. He finally feels like a match for Batman €“- both physically and mentally." * "Christian Bale and Tom Hardy are both such fiercely committed actors that pitching them as adversaries works incredibly well €“- they have such a great chemistry on camera." * [Anne Hathaway's Catwoman is completely new and it€™s a really interesting role. You never quite know where you are with her!"
The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20th, 2012 and stars Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph-Gordon Levitt, Morgan Freeman and many, many, many more as I'm sure you have been following. Chris Nolan directs what is officially his final Batman movie.
