Reports are emerging today that The Dark Knight Rises will be handed a PG-13 rating by the MPAA. The news should come as no real surprise, as The Dark Knight was also rated PG-13 and went on to earn over $1 billion worldwide. The Dark Knight was, however, thought by many to contain too much violence for PG-13 rating. News of the PG-13 rating came via the Nolan Fans forum, via Collider, where a member posted a screen grab taken directly from the Warner Bros exhibitor website. The rating has been given to The Dark Knight Rises for "intense sequences of violence and action, some sensuality and language". The PG-13 rating in the USA would most likely mean the movie will attract a 12A rating in the UK. In recent weeks, however, the UK's movie classification board, the BBFC, has come under intense pressure following the 12A rating they gave to The Hunger Games, despite its theme being inherently violent. They will certainly be looking to avoid any controversy for what will be the biggest movie release of the year, but a 12A rating does seem almost certain despite this. The film is being released worldwide between July 19th and July 28th.
