The Dead Don't Die Just Became The Hottest Horror Movie Of 2019
A self-aware dark zombie comedy with a stunning cast? TO MY VEINS!
You might not have heard that much about it, but in June, the best horror movie of 2019 might just be coming to cinemas.
It's nothing to do with Pennywise or Chucky, there's no Pet Sematary involved and while it's about zombies, it's not the long-awaited Zombieland sequel.
Rather, it's the star-studded The Dead Don't Die from Jim Jarmusch, who has assembled pretty much the best cast of any horror movie ever for a pitch black comedy that looks like it takes leads from Fargo era Coens and sprinkles on a little Wes Anderson for good measure. All while telling a good old fashioned zombie invasion story.
Here's the magnificent trailer...
How could you not immediately fall in love with that? Iggy Pop as a zombie? Tilda Swinton as a Glaswegian, sword-wielding, drag-loving (possibly) mortician? Bill Murray, Chloe Sevigny and Adam Driver as mild-mannered cops defending their small town from invasion...
It's like a walking (well, stumbling, dead-foot-dragging) homage to zombie movies with the same sort of awareness as Zombieland managed all those years ago. You'd be furious if you were releasing a sequel to THAT movie mere months after this delight steals all your thunder.
More than anything, it's great to see another zombie movie that doesn't pretend not to know what zombies are. At this point, zombies are so overdone that movies that aren't self-aware are completely missing a trick.
Just hook it to my veins.
