The Death Of Superman Review: 5 Ups & 6 Downs
A flawed but moderately entertaining DC animation.
The latest DC Universe animated film from Warner Bros., The Death of Superman, is available now on digital streaming services, and like the vast majority of the label's output, it's a pretty middling offering.
The original 1992-1993 comic book run remains one of the most beloved and iconic stories in the Man of Steel's history, and after being loosely adapted with highly mixed results in both 2007 and 2016, fans can at least rest easy that this is the most convincing of the three attempts.
At once an affecting tribute to the Superman mythos and an animated film frustratingly hamstrung by blatant corner-cutting both technically and creatively, it's once again another DC animation that fails to live up to its colossal potential.
If you're a huge Superman fan, though, it delivers the basic goods and should rouse enough intrigue for the sequel, Reign of the Supermen, which is teased in the movie's end credits and is due for release next year...
