The Emoji Movie is now in cinemas after enduring ridicule from film lovers the world over for, well, looking like nothing more than a flaming dumpster fire. If you were hoping the end product might defy expectations and deliver a subversive, surprisingly smart outing like The Lego Movie, unfortunately, you'd be dead wrong.

Critics are calling Sony Pictures Animation's latest cash-grab not just one of the worst movies of the year, but one of the worst animated films ever to come from a major studio, and they're not remotely wrong.

The Emoji Movie is an insult to the intelligence of even the youngest kids, and the fact that it finished second at the box office in its first weekend on release says more about western culture than any essay or study possibly could.

To make the easy joke, it is a pile of poop, an utter disaster of a film with just a few slight, redeeming qualities...
