THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK director Irvin Kershner is gone...

By Matt Holmes /

Irvin Kershner, director of the Star Wars series' finest hour - the middle trilogy classic The Empire Strikes Back, has died aged 87. I've just written a lengthy piece on Leslie Nielsen's sad death and now this. We've lost two greats that's for sure. Kershner also made Robocop 2 and Never Say Never Again - becoming something of a sequels man - but boy how we would trade those films in a heartbeat for Kershner directed Return of the Jedi or those Star Wars prequels if Lucas would have given him free reign. I, or someone else, will write more soon.
