The Evolution Of The Psycho Franchise

By James Kirk /

5. Bates Motel (1987)

Launched by Universal as a two-hour series pilot, Bates Motel dismissed the timeline created by Psychos II and III and took on new characters and situations. Norman Bates has died in the insane asylum and has left the house and motel to former inmate Alex West, played by Bud Cort. Alex takes up residence and soon discovers the motel is haunted. Perkins was not involved in the movie, and publicly panned it. It was aimed at teenagers who wisely chose not to watch this terrible mess, which has yet to be released on DVD.
